Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, who have been a couple since 2017, are officially going their separate ways. The two released a statement Thursday revealing the breakup.
“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” Lopez and Rodriguez said. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other, and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
The pop superstar and the former baseball slugger also asked for privacy for the sake of their children. Lopez, 51, is the parent of 13-year-old twins, daughter Emme and son Max with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Rodriguez, 45, shares two daughters with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis: Natasha, 16, and Ella, 12.
After releasing the announcement, Rodriguez took to social media to share a sweet photo of himself and Jlo. He also tagged Lopez in the post.

The source also added that it was tough for the pair to see each other amid COVID-19 restrictions because Lopez was busy in the Dominican Republic filming a movie, and Rodriguez was “in Miami getting ready for baseball season.”

We had planned what we really, really wanted to do, [but] I don’t know if we’ll be able to re-create that,” Jennifer Lopez said. “We canceled it, and since then, we haven’t really talked about it. There’s no rush. We want to do it right when we can do it.”
