Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez, who have been a couple since 2017, are officially going their separate ways. The two released a statement Thursday revealing the breakup.
“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” Lopez and Rodriguez said. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other, and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
The pop superstar and the former baseball slugger also asked for privacy for the sake of their children. Lopez, 51, is the parent of 13-year-old twins, daughter Emme and son Max with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Rodriguez, 45, shares two daughters with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis: Natasha, 16, and Ella, 12.
After releasing the announcement, Rodriguez took to social media to share a sweet photo of himself and Jlo. He also tagged Lopez in the post.
Shocking Reports first circulated in March that Lopez and Rodriguez had called off their engagement, but at that time, the two were still together. “They hit a rough patch that made them think about what they should do,” a close source to the former couple said.
The source also added that it was tough for the pair to see each other amid COVID-19 restrictions because Lopez was busy in the Dominican Republic filming a movie, and Rodriguez was “in Miami getting ready for baseball season.”
Shortly after rumors began, Lopez and Rodriguez denied all the rumors. “All the reports are inaccurate. We are working through some things,” the pair said in a joint statement in March.
Earlier this week, Lopez shared a series of photos from the set of “Shotgun Wedding,” and her engagement ring was missing from the images. After sharing pictures on social media, split rumors swirled again.
The performing sensation and the former Yankee started dating in 2017 and announced their engagement in March 2019. Rodriguez The retired popped the question during their getaway in the Bahamas.

Earlier this year, the former couple decided to postpone their wedding because due to the coronavirus pandemic. “We postponed the wedding twice. We had planned what we really, really wanted to do, [but] I don’t know if we’ll be able to re-create that,” Jennifer Lopez said. “We canceled it, and since then, we haven’t really talked about it. There’s no rush. We want to do it right when we can do it.”
The On The Floor singer was previously married to Ojani Noa (1997–1998), Cris Judd (2001–2003), and Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014.
