Legendary Warner Bros. Records chief Mo Ostin is dead at the age of 95. According to reliable sources and the latest statements, he died of natural causes.

Warner Records ‘ co-chairman/COO Tom Corson and co-chairman/CEO Aaron Bay-Schuck announced the devastating news writing: “Legendary music executive Mo Ostin passed away peacefully in his sleep last night at the age of 95.”

They added that Ostin was one of the greatest record men of all time and also a prime architect of the modern music business. They continued: “For Mo, it was always first and foremost about helping artists realize their vision.”

“One of the pivotal figures in the evolution of Warner Music Group, in the 1960s Mo ushered Warner/Reprise Records into a golden era of revolutionary, culture-shifting artistry.”

Bay-Schuck and Corson said Mo remained a tireless champion of creative freedom, over his next three decades at the label both for the talent he nurtured and the people who worked for him.

They said that Ostin lived an extraordinary life doing what he liked, and he will be missed throughout the industry he helped create, and by the artists and colleagues whom Ostin inspired to be their best selves.

“On behalf of everyone at Warner, we want to thank Mo for everything he did, and for his inspiring belief in our bright future. Our condolences go out to his family at this difficult time” they added.

Mo Ostin who was born Morris Meyer Ostrofsky on March 27, 1927, was a record executive who has worked for several companies, including Warner Bros. Records, Verve, Reprise Records, and DreamWorks.

In 2003, Ostin was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Neil Young, Paul Simon, and Lorne Michaels.

Record executive Mo Ostin is dead and Warner Records’ co-chairman/CEO and co-chairman/COO have released a statement to share the devastating news.

Max Lousada, CEO of Warner Recorded Music said: “In an era when creative entrepreneurs are revered, we celebrate Mo Ostin as a pioneer who wrote the rulebook for others to follow.”

“Warner Music Group and Warner Records wouldn’t exist without his passion, vision, and intelligence. He not only helped build one of the world’s greatest music companies, but he inspired a culture driven by bravery and ingenuity.”

“Mo saw artists for who they really were and gave them the space and support to fully realize their originality. Our condolences to Michael and the whole Ostin family. Mo was a legend, and he will be deeply missed,” he added.

He began his professional career in the mid-1950s as a controller at Clef Records, a record company started by Norman Granz. The company was soon renamed ‘Verve’.

Frank Sinatra attempted and failed to buy Verve, which was finally sold to MGM Records. Frank was reportedly so impressed by the company’s artists that he formed his own Reprise Records in 1960.

Sinatra hired Ostin to head it. Reprise joined forces with Warner Bros in 1963. The first rock act Mo signed to Reprise was The Kinks. In 1967, Ostin signed Jimi Hendrix after seeing him perform at the Monterey Pop Festival.

H spent 32 years at Warner/Reprise. Mo served as chairman of the Recording Industry Association of America for a 2-year term.

After he left Warner Bros., in 1994, he went on to find the music division of the entertainment conglomerate DreamWorks SKG. At the 2006 Grammy Salute to Industry Icons, The artist received The Recording Academy President’s Merit Award.
