Born in 1922, Rabbi David Eliach described his activity in Palestine with “ Tehran Children,” approximately 800 Jewish people from eastern Poland and the Soviet Union.
Children were either orphaned or departed from their parents, and then they moved to Palestine. David Eliach was responsible for the education and care of about 70 of these children. He and other adult caregivers also saw the psychological trauma and their plans to best help the children recover and kick off joining formal education.
Rabbi David Eliach won Covenant Award in 1992, and the ex-principal of the Yeshivah of Flatbush was 99 years young at the time of losing his life. While he retired for nearly 25 years, Eliach visited Flatbush multiple days a week to guide teachers.

In February 2020, he presented the initial lecture in a class on teaching Tanach to the Wexner Kollel Elyon and the Israel Henry Beren Institute for Higher Talmudic Studies meetings at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary.
“The first thing you have to do as an educator is love your students,” Eliach stated at that time. “They are young, they are looking for guidance, and you can provide that. But you have to like them. If you don’t like them, you’re not going to be a very good teacher. It’s essential to have a positive relationship with the children you’re teaching. Sally is a wonderful mechanechet (educator) because she understands kids, and she understands what it means to relate to people, old and young. She is a natural.”
