Heartbroken to inform you of the founding member of the Clash’s death, announced on Nov. 12, 2022. Keith Levene’s cause of unexpected death has stayed unrevealed. May he rest in peace.

It must be noted that US day News does not confirm nor reject any of this information. If you read incorrect details, please, allow us to know.

Born on July 18, 1957, Julian Keith Levene, the English musician, gained fame as the founding member of both The Clash and Public Image Ltd (PiL).

Known as an early fan of progressive rock, Mr. Levene was born in Muswell Hill, London on 18 July 1957;

He worked as a roadie for Yes on their Close to the Edge tour when he was only fifteen. The legend became a founding member of The Clash and The Flowers of Romance in 1976.

Levene was responsible for helping to persuade Joe Strummer to leave the 101ers and join the Clash. Keith co-wrote “What’s My Name”, featured on their first album; however, he left The Clash before they began recording.

Noted, the Sex Pistols disintegrated, Levene and that band’s lead singer John Lydon co-founded Public Image Ltd (PiL) after the late 1970s British punk band.

He played on Travis Bean, metal-neck guitars. Being involved in the writing, he began to perform and produce PiL’s early albums:

  • First Issue,
  • Metal Box
  • Flowers of Romance

Mr, Levene contributed to industrial rock supergroup Pigface’s album Easy Listening… back in 2003. The deceased artist has since released several solo records, among which was the Killer in the Crowd EP in 2004.

At an impromptu appearance at the Musicport Festival in Bridlington Spa on 24 October 2010. It was right at the place where they were joined by vocalist Nathan Maverick, Levene returned with former PiL bassist Jah Wobble.

Levene contributed to three tracks on the album Psychic Life in 2011, a collaboration between Wobble and Lonelady.

Mr. Keith and Wobble played various venues in England, Wales, and Germany as Metal Box in Dub in early 2012, after some planned Japan gigs were canceled because of visa issues. This was heeded by the release of a four-song EP, Yin & Yang.

Keith Levene’s Cause of Sudden Death Due to Cancer?

Not clarifying Keith Levene’s cause of death, the innovative guitarist who was a founder member of both the Clash and Public Image Ltd, passed away at the age of 65.

For those who may wonder, the deceased was suffering from liver cancer. He died at his home in Norfolk, leaving a lasting legacy of influence on British rock music.

Of course, it hasn’t been mentioned in any reliable source that cancer was the cause of his death. The family has asked for privacy.

People thought I was classically trained, which was bollocks. I knew the E chord and ventured into E minor. We laid the music out on a plate for Lydon. He was very hip at the time and did really good work,” Levene said in 2012.

The website Quietus described him as “one of the architects of the post-punk sound, his guitar style occupying a space between angular abrasion and pop opulence” in 2021.

You may want to know that his family moved to Margate, Kent, the town where he was first exposed to rock music when Turner was 13. He traveled and worked around Europe, studying the saxophone in his early 20s, after a period in the merchant navy.

He was introduced to free jazz in Berlin, leading him to become convinced that self-expression in music was more important than technique.

“I decided that what I wanted to do was play free jazz in a rock band. What I was trying to do in Hawkwind, basically,” he once expressed himself in Mojo magazine in 1999.

The legend enjoyed building guitars and had been working on a book about PiL with writer Adam Hammond. His partner, Kate Ransford, who, with his sister, Jill Bennett, and her husband was with him in his final hours, said he had died “peacefully, settled, cozy and loved”.
