The heartbreaking news was confirmed in a statement from the family of beloved folk artist, Paul Sartin; The statement that was shared by Angela, James, Will, and Joe Sartin, reads, “It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of our beloved Paul, who left us unexpectedly yesterday evening. We know that he was someone who brought wonderful music into your lives and that so many of you counted him as a close and dear friend.”

The statement then came to add, “We have lost a son and a father, and while we ask now that we are allowed to mourn Paul in private, we understand that many of you will have lovely memories that you would like to share. Paul was well known for his profession with the folk band Bellowhead, nevertheless, he additionally played with three-piece Faustus and the folk/comedy duo Belshazzar’s Feast.

Born in Willesden, London, he was educated at Anson Primary School, Highgate School, on an assisted place, and later transferred to the Purcell School for Young Musicians, again on a helped place from Brent music service.

In 1998, he created the folk band, Dr. Faustus, with Tim van Eyken, Benji Kirkpatrick, and Robert Harbron, with the purpose of playing English folk music. The band undertook outreach work with charities Superact and Live Music Now and released two albums — The First Cut and Wager- before separating in 2005.

He achieved a job as a vocal tutor at St Edward’s School, Oxford in 1999, kicked off singing as an assistant lay clerk in Winchester Cathedral choir in 2000, and started directing the Andover Museum Loft Singers, a non-auditioning community choir established in Andover, Hampshire, in 2001.

Beloved Sartin compiled, composed, and created Community Choirs: Folk for Faber Music in 2016. Faustus published a third album, Death and Other Animals, in the Autumn of 2016. He was a musical director, arranger, and performer in a revised production of The Transports, which toured in 2017.

Sartin hosted BBC Four’s Christmas session, revealed in 2009, which featured Bellowhead and Belshazzar’s Feast alongside great names including, Jim Moray, The Unthanks, Thea Gilmore, and Lisa Knapp.

He had additionally starred on BBC Radio 2’s ‘Clare Balding Show and BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune and ‘The Choir’. In 2016 he played on BBC Radio 4’s Playing The Skyline, composing and playing music based on a view of Oxfordshire
