After a brain-eating amoeba was found in a southeast Texas water supply that impacts thousands of customers, residents of the following communities were warned to stop using tap water.

Under this advisory issued by the Brazosport Water Authority, residents are urged not to drink or use tap water from the impacted system, such as bathing, however, there is no problem with flushing the toilet is under the advisory.

Officials found Brazosport brain-eating amoeba Friday night

At about 9 p.m. Friday the Brazosport Water Authority informed customers they had found Naegleria fowleri, a brain-eating amoeba, in the water.

Although TCEQ along with state and local officials are working to resolve the problem as soon as possible, residents are advised to not consume any water from the tap till next notice. Avoid using the water to brush teeth, bath, or shower.

The water ban will remain in effect until the system has been flushed and officials deem it safe to drink.
