GENERATION IRON announced: “Bodybuilding legend and 1982 Olympia champion Chris Dickerson has passed away at 82 years old. Generation Iron sends condolences to family and friends during this difficult time.”
Born in August 1939, Mr. Dickerson was 1957 graduated high school at Olney Friends School. He was an accomplished opera singer in addition to his career in athletics besides studying music.
He is being described well for both his heavily muscled, symmetrical physique and for his skills on the posing dais. Mr. Dickerson first followed his passion by entering the bodybuilding competition in 1965, taking third place at that year’s Mr. Long Beach competition.
In 1973, he turned pro by achieving a total of 15 professional bodybuilding titles across four organizations during his career. Besides, he trained for many of his most important competitions in the 1980s with former Mr. Universe Bill Pearl.
He has received Mr. Olympia once (1982), a distinction he shares with Samir Bannout (1983) and Dexter Jackson (2008), not to mention Shawn Rhoden (2018) and Brandon Curry (2019).

Not a lot has been shared due to Chris Dickerson’s cause of death; however, it’s reported that the 1982 Mr. Olympia champion passed away on December 23, 2021, at the age of 82, suffering an initial heart attack.
Mr. Dickerson was the first openly gay winner of the IFBB Mr. Olympia contest, the first African-American AAU Mr. America, as well as being one of only two bodybuilders to win titles in both Mr. Olympia and Masters Olympia competitions.
