Former UFC light-heavyweight title contender Anthony Johnson’s death was confirmed on November 13, 2022. Anthony Rumble Johnson’s cause of death was revealed by reliable sources.

The former UFC fighter reportedly died this weekend after battling an undisclosed disease he was apparently been dealing with for quite a while. The rest of the details surrounding his passing have yet to be released.

His manager Ali Abdelaziz had asked fans as recently as last month to “pray” for Johnson, and it was announced this evening that he lost his battle with illness.

“Rumble, he’s going through some health problems right now. It’s very sad. I think, I want everybody to pray for him. Pray for Anthony. It’s not going well. He’s very strong, spiritually. But pray for him,” Abdelaziz said during an interview in October.

UFC’s Michael Chiesa released a post for condolences, writing: “RIP Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson. One of the most prolific KO artists our sport has ever seen. My prayers go out to his family and everyone affected by this tragedy.”

Last year, the fighter explained how sick he was during a social media post. “Really wish I could go into detail about how ill I truly am. Just know I need as many prayers as I can get and I’ll see you in 2022 God willing,” his post read.

“Never been this afraid of anything in my life but I’ve remained strong with the support of friends and family,” Johnson wrote.

Anthony challenged for the light-heavyweight belt in the UFC on two occasions, both times losing to Daniel Cormier. The two fighters met in 2015 at UFC 187 after Jon Jones was forced out, before rematching at UFC 210 in 2017 with Daniel Cormier winning both by submission.

His most famous wins included defeating world champions such as Ryan Bader and Glover Texeira, as well as defeating the likes of Alexander Gustafsson and Jimi Manuwa.

Disease is Rumble Johnson’s Cause of Death

The former UFC fighter Rumble Johnson’s cause of death is reported as from Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Rumble made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 10, knocking out Chad Reiner. Anthony had taken the fight on less than one week’s notice, replacing an injured Steve Bruno, who had torn his rotator cuff.

Johnson was seen in a previous clip for The Ultimate Fighter trying out for season six, however for unrevealed reasons he was not on the show.

He was expected to face John Howard in 2010, at UFC LIVE: Vera vs. Jones, but had to pull out because of suffering a knee injury in training. Because of the knee injury, he considered a move to the middleweight division of the UFC.

Anthony went on to face Charlie Brenneman at UFC on Versus 6. Johnson won the fight via first-round KO, gaining Knockout of the Night honors.

He faced Bellator veteran D.J. Linderman at WSOF 1 on November 3, 2012. Johnson won the fight via KO in the first round. On March 23, 2013, Johnson fought at heavyweight against Andrei Arlovski at WSOF 2 and won via unanimous decision.

On September 14, 2013, Johnson was scheduled to face Strikeforce vet Mike Kyle, at WSOF 5. However, he was forced out of the bout due to an injury.

A number of fighters have taken to social media to pay tributes to the late champion. Michael Chiesa tweeted: “RIP Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson. One of the most prolific KO artists our sport has ever seen. My prayers go out to his family and everyone affected by this tragedy.”

Caroline Pearce wrote: “Beyond saddened to hear the news that Anthony Johnson has passed away age 38. I had the pleasure of interviewing Rumble a few times and loved his energy. One of the most devasting finishers our sport has seen. RIP.”

UFC star Jake Shields said: “Just heard the sad news they Anthony Rumble Johnson has passed away. RIP brother,” while Terrence McKinney wrote: “Rumble Johnson passed away. The MMA community lost a legend and I will continue to pray for his family.”

“Rest Easy my brother. For a guy who struck fear in so many peoples heart Anthony Johnson was a caring person. From random text to check ins during loss. What a person he was, Rumble will be missed. Sometimes life doesn’t seem fair. Horrible news,” Daniel Cormier wrote.
