Loud music and a party turned to a fatal homicide

A neighbor, who was on the scene about 30 minutes before the shooting happened, said he called police because of a party and loud music.

The neighbor reported a squad car that arrived in the area. However, the music continued playing out loud until the neighbor heard at least 12 shots come from the same place.

He called 911 for the second time. While on the phone, he heard another six shots and women screaming too, the neighbor reported.

Neighbors reached around the scene. Many declared the blasts woke them up, but they didn’t see what happened.

A man also arrived at the scene of Morgan Park Shooting asking the police officers if he could just take the hat and said he was linked to the victim.

“The hat. I just want the hat,” he related. The officers stated he couldn’t take it, saying the scene had to be processed and the hat would likely be taken into evidence.

As detectives and evidence technicians continued working the scene and neighbors went back inside, a car with two men inside drove up to them. One of the men had a gunshot wound to the arm, a law enforcement source said.

The man was shot in the right forearm in a separate attack around 3:35 a.m. in the 11700 block of South Loomis Street in the West Pullman neighborhood, police later announced. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in good condition.
